Eighteen incompatibles

And from that, “The Materia Medica speaks of eighteen incompatibles.”

“Ban Lou Bei Lian Ji Gong Wu.” The book of materia medica specifically talks about eighteen incompatibles among medical substances. What are they? It says “Ban Lou Bei Xian Ji Gong Wu.” Ban refers to Ban Xia (Pinelliae Rhizoma preparatum), and Lou refers to Gua Lou (Trichosanthis Fructus). Among Gua Lou, there is also Gua Lou Ren (Trichosanthis Semen), Gua Lou Zi (Trichosanthis Semen), and Gua Lou Gen (Trichosanthis Radix). This is Gua Lou. “Ban Lou Bei” Bei refers to Chuan Bei, Chuan Bei Mu (Fritillariae cirrhosae Bulbus). Lian refers to Bai Lian (Ampelopsis Radix), another name for a medical ingredient. Ji refers to Bai Ji (Bletillae Rhizoma). These five flavors are Ban Xia, Gua Lou, Chuan Bei, Bai Lian, and Bai Ji. “Gong Wu” refers to those with the word Wu. For example, Chuan Wu (Aconiti Radix Preparata), Cao Wu (Aconiti Kusnezoffi Radix), He Shou Wu (Polygoni multiflori Radix preparata), all these with the word Wu. All these Wu, Wu refers to the color black, they will struggle with these substances. Gong refers to a forward attack. “Ban Lou Bei Lian Ji Gong Wu.” This is the second sentence.

The third sentence writes “Zao Ji Sui Yuan Ju Zhan Cao.” Zao refers to Hai Zao (Sargassum), and Ji refers to Ba Ji (Morindae officinalis Radix). Sui refers to Gan Sui (Kansui Radix), and Yuan refers to Yuan Hua (Genkwa Flos). Hai Zao, Ba Ji, Gan Sui, and Yuan Hua “Ju Zhan Cao” fight with this Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix). Gan Cao is actually amiable with everyone and is able to live peacefully with everyone; there is no fighting, and it does not struggle with anyone. Except for these four kinds – Hai Zao, Ba Ji, Gan Sui, and Yuan Hua. These four kinds. If you wish to use Gan Cao, you cannot use Hai Zao, Ba Ji, Gan Sui, or Yuan Hua. You cannot use these four kinds. If you use any of these four kinds together, then it will have a chemical effect, an explosion like a bomb. You will have these kinds of problems. They will start fighting, and once they start fighting, the person will not be able to bear it. This is “Ju Zhan Cao”

“Zhu Shen Xin Shao Pan Li Lu.” Zhu Shen refers to all the Ren Sheng (Ginseng Radix), Dang Shen (Codonopsis Radix), Tai Zi Shen (Pseudostellariae Radix), all these Shen, as long as they have Shen in their name – Zhu Shen.  Shao, Xin refers to Xi Xin (Asari Radix), the herb with this name. Shao refers to Shao Yao (Paeoniae Radix rubra). Shen, Xi Xin and Shao Yao, “ Pan Li Lu” cannot be used with Li Lu (Veratri nigri Radix et Rhizoma). If it is with Li Lu, Li Lu is another herb’s name, and if they are used together, then this person will also die. Previously, with “ Ban Lou Bei Lian”, Ban Xia, Gua Lou, Chuan Bei, Bai Lian, and Bai Ji, these five medical substances cannot be together with Chuan Wu, Cao Wu, He Shou Wu, or any others with the Wu word. If they are used together, they will be mutually incompatible, and when the incompatibility happens in the stomach, they will start to fight. The moment the fight, they might even tear apart the intestines, and thus this will lead to death.

One month, if you pay one month, it’s a hundred dollars。 Each week, you pay thirty dollars。 Now it is free。 還有話對你們講,你們每一個人誠心想要學的,下個禮拜,一定先要 no paper recite to me who if don’t recite to me, is out。Go out。
Concerning these eighteen kinds, those of us who study the medical substances of China must know. We must understand that these eighteen types cannot be used simultaneously. These various mutually incompatible substances cannot be used at the same time. This we must know. If we do not know this, it is very easy to treat a person wrongfully and thus wrongfully kill, creating a huge mistake. This is a type of worldly knowledge; it is just like you going to school, when someone teaches knowledge, you have to pay tuition. At first, we wanted to charge everyone thirty dollars per lesson. “One month, if you pay one month, it is a hundred dollars. Each week, you pay thirty dollars. Now it is free.”
Next week, we will discuss the Nineteen Antagonisms and the  Song of Herbal Characteristics. Those who came to learn about worldly dharmas should not be anxious. You have to take your time. But that is not to say it is free and you can go, I still have something to say. Those of you who sincerely wish to learn this, next week, before anything, you have to “no paper recite to me, who if don’t come recite to me is out. Go out.” I don’t want any bad students. Watch; I can tell you that I am able to recite it from memory. I shall now recite it; watch how I do it.

You all should memorize and recite it in this way. I did not sway my head. When the old scholars of China read books, they will in this way, sway their heads till it gets sore (Suan). My head is not sore. Soreness- when you sway your head, the head will get sore. Suan is sour. The old scholars who read books, when they read it goes this way: Confucius states, Confucius says… The faster they read, the more intensely they sway. Waste your time.
